30 Years Strong: Leading with Care You Can Trust

July 9, 2026

Since opening in 1996, Mississippi Valley Surgery Center (MVSC) has provided the Quad Cities region with high-quality surgical care in a safe, comfortable and caring environment. From orthopaedic surgery and spine care to gastrointestinal procedures at Mississippi Valley Endoscopy Center (MVEC), the team remains focused on what matters most: patient safety, quality outcomes, advanced technology and compassionate care.

As MVSC celebrates its 30th anniversary, the organization is also celebrating several important healthcare recognitions. These include reaccreditations, advanced certifications and a Blue Distinction® recognition. While these honors are exciting, what they really mean is simple: patients can feel confident knowing they are trusting a surgery center committed to achieving high-quality care.

Three-time reaccreditation: Iowa’s only AAAHC Advanced Orthopaedic and Spine Certified surgery Center

Both Mississippi Valley Surgery Center and Mississippi Valley Endoscopy Center have been AAAHC-accredited Ambulatory Surgery Centers with CMS deemed status since the beginning. This means both centers have been reviewed under nationally recognized standards for safety, quality and patient care for nearly 30 years. Accreditation is not something a center receives once and keeps forever. It must be reaccredited through regular reviews, which helps ensure MVSC and MVEC continue to meet current healthcare standards and continuously improve the care provided.

MVSC has also earned AAAHC Advanced Orthopaedic and Spine Certification for three terms of accreditation and is proud to be Iowa’s only AAAHC Advanced Orthopaedic and Spine Certified surgery center. This advanced certification focuses on procedures such as total joint replacement and complex spine surgery. For patients, it means MVSC has met advanced standards for orthopaedic and spine care and is prepared to support patients through each step of their surgical journey.

“Every day, our team embraces a culture of excellence that ensures our patients receive the highest level of care,” said Missy Soliz, BSN, RN, Director of Human Resources and Quality. “Our patients can feel confident knowing that every part of their surgical journey is guided by best practices and a highly skilled, dedicated team.”

Built on expertise and trust: Wellmark Blue Distinction® for knee and hip replacement

MVSC is also recognized as a Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Blue Distinction® Center for knee and hip replacement. Choosing where to have surgery can feel overwhelming, and this recognition helps patients know that MVSC has met quality standards for total knee and total hip replacement surgeries.

Blue Distinction® Centers are recognized for expertise in specialty care and are also associated with lower complication rates and fewer hospital readmissions.

Endoscopy leadership: Mississippi Valley Endoscopy Center ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition

The commitment to quality also extends to Mississippi Valley Endoscopy Center. MVEC recently received a three-year renewal recognition from the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, also known as ASGE. This recognition focuses on important areas such as patient safety, infection control, equipment cleaning and reprocessing, staff training and quality improvement. MVEC provides outpatient gastrointestinal care, including colonoscopies, colon cancer screenings, upper digestive tract endoscopies and other procedures that support digestive health.

Awards, certifications and accreditations are important, but what matters most is patient trust. This recognition means MVSC and MVEC are regularly reviewed by outside healthcare organizations. They mean the teams are trained, prepared and focused on safe, high-quality care. Most importantly, they mean patients can have complete confidence in the care they receive.

For 30 years, MVSC has been built on skilled physicians, dedicated staff, advanced care and a strong commitment to the community. These recognitions are not just milestones. They are proof of the work that has been happening since the beginning.
