Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are the surgical specialists of the dental profession and diagnose, treat and manage a wide variety of conditions, defects, and injuries of the mouth, teeth, jaws and face.

Diagnosis of impacted teeth, tooth extraction and dentoalveloar are common surgeries done in the surgery center. Oral cancer removals and biopsies can be addressed by oral surgeons. Treatment and repair of injuries to the face, jaws, mouth and teeth caused by trauma are managed by oral and maxillofacial experts including fractures or the upper and lower jaws and orbits as well as cosmetic management of facial lacerations.

They can also address surgical correction of oral and facial deformities caused by differences in skeletal growth between upper and lower jaws and surgical correction of congenital deformities like cleft lip and palate, which occur when all or a portion of the oral-nasal cavity does not grow together during fetal development.
